Trick or Treat

Created by Yawana ( Shiman ) 10 years ago
One day in the late Eighteenth Century a man of God named Pope Gregory the III declared day to honor all, Saints and Martyrs..The holiday was to be named All Saints Day. The evening before was referred to as " Hallows Eve ", and appropriately so. As both time and people evolved the infamous day became known as " Halloween". Over a a stretch of time Halloween became a family and/or a community based occasion. Halloween quickly became a family event by involving children wearing costumes and engaging in festive activities. Of course bobbing for apples..telling ghouly stories was part of the American interpretation as well as a tradition. The rest is history so to speak... The story that I am going to speak upon is very apropo given the time of year that is approaching. On Hallow's Eve there was a gentleman whose name was Anthony. I believe he would inform kids within arms reach what time his chariot was to set sail so to speak and so forth. He communicated this to kids he would call his own because he felt Halloween was a great opportunity to show inner city kids another side of the world, and in doing so they became proud owners of pillow cases filled to the brim ( well the truth might be slightly exaggerated given this is a Wise Tale so to speak ) with chocolate goodness, and lots of sweet treats. Yes indeed I did say pillow cases, but If you were priviliged to know "Mr. Wilmer" then you were aware that everything he did was "Grandiose" . In fact if you were to ask the towns people ( family/friends/neighbors etc. ) I believe he was nick named Mr. Wilmer. Anthony would round up the troops around 5 or 6 pm in his golden chariot. Destination somewhere within the boundaries of Henrietta. Eagle Ridge was the housing development of preferred choice, as it was where he grew up. The reason this story is so special, is due to the fact that Mr. Wilmer was just as excited as the kids in his back seat. It became a meeting place so to speak. Of course some of his own need to were to reiminesce and/or be a social butterfly. Which of course came second to steering the kids in the right direction by giving them hints and clues on how to tell which houses passed out good candy or perhaps towards the homes that he once re-called having either a friend or a schoolmate reside in from his younger days. Mr. Wilmer seemed to have aches and pains as he was frequently sighted throughout town with a cane of some sort. But he did not let that stop him from doing what he loved..Which was to be around kids in hopes to teach them a lesson or two, and of course show them compassion and lots of Love. After-all isn't "Love" the one thing that makes the world go round. So on this particular Halloween Oct 31st 2013 fancy a costume, pass out delicious sweet treats, and or share this story /wise tale to your own children or a youngster that crosses your path. HAPPY HALLOWEEN from "Big Boy" A.k.A ( Fying high above ) and The Wilmer Family
